Is a Library Foundation for You?: How to Create or Re-Energize a Library Foundation

This webinar is intended for libraries that either want to create a library foundation or that have a foundation that needs energizing. The session will cover the basics of creating a foundation, including:

  • The legal requirements of creating a foundation
  • How to go about recruiting Board members for a foundation
  • The mission and purpose of library foundations
  • What types of fundraising foundations should undertake
  • The difference between Friends groups and Foundations and how to create a harmonious working relationship between them

The session will also give tips for re-energizing an existing library foundation that is not effectively fundraising.

The webinar is intended for library directors, Board members, and Friends and Foundation volunteers or staff. The webinar will include a presentation plus an opportunity for Q & A.

Bio

Peter Pearson is an experienced leader in library advocacy and fundraising. As the President of the Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library in Minnesota for 25 years, he oversaw two substantial financial campaigns, including a $21 million renovation of Saint Paul’s main library and a $14.5 million for renovation of branch libraries. Peter’s background includes a master’s degree in educational administration and various leadership roles in educational and library-focused organizations.
