All About Call Numbers with Robin Fay

February 21 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm CST

In this session, we’ll explore call numbers in our records for both Library of Congress and Dewey! We’ll look at public display of call numbers and behind the scenes, cracking the code of call numbers – from how to “read” a call number to the foundations of construction. We’ll dive into the relationship between the call number to other parts of our data, as well as the differences (and relationships) between LC and Dewey call numbers.

Are call numbers relevant for electronic resources? The answer might surprise you! Along the way, we will touch on FREE resources that you can use to doublecheck call numbers and some common “gotchas” to look for. Through exploration of examples, attendees will gain an understanding of call number construction (classification) with resources for further exploration.

Robin Fay is an Instructor and Metadata Librarian who has worked with academic, public, and community college libraries, multistate consortia, and nonprofit organizations. Her interests are in immersive technologies and the intersection of machine learning, data, and us.
